Satellite If you are renting a house or an apartment and have been told that you can not have a satellite system by the owner/manager; or if you live in a community that has a Home Owners Association that is trying to prevent you from having satellite; don’t believe them! FCC rulings provide that it is illegal for a property manager to prevent you from having a satellite system if certain conditions are met. There are size limitations for the antenna (satellite dish) which all the satellite providers meet. The dish has to be placed within the confines of the property you are renting, such as your balcony. So, if you are in an apartment and have a balcony facing the correct way (exact coordinates differs by location, towards the south), you can get satellite. However, the property manager can prevent you from installing the antenna on the building itself or drilling holes in the wall. With regard to the HOA, as long as the antenna is within your property and all attempts to keep it concealed from the front of the house are made, they can not say anything. Even if for some reason the antenna has to be placed in the absolute front of the house because that is the only place it will get signal, they can’t prevent you from doing so.
