High-Definition High-definition programming is becoming more popular as costs of HD televisions drop and sales increase. There are certain things to consider before purchasing an HD setup. First of all, you HAVE to have an HD television in order for the latest HD satellite receivers to work. They no longer include outputs for regular televisions. Particularly where DirecTV is concerned, it is important to know that the technology is changing and by 2006 you will need new equipment to take advantage of the expanded channel lineup. The major concern with a DirecTV HD setup is to make sure that there are enough coax lines going to the dish location. Most homes are only wired with 1 or 2 lines going to the outside, and this can cause a big problem with an HD setup, as it requires 4 lines. If you don’t want cables ran on the outside of the house, it is important to plan ahead for such services. Another thing to consider is that at the current time, if you want the network channels in HD, then you need an off-air antenna to receive those. While the same coax cable can be used for both satellite and off-air, best off-air reception will be obtained using a separate cable. This means that if you have an HD Tivo and want off-air HD as well, then you should have 3 coax lines running to that location.
